Payroll
Unclassified and Classified Employees are paid biweekly every other Friday via direct deposit.
Faculty are paid once a month, the last day of the month.
Health Insurance
UNO health insurance is available for eligible employees through the Office of Group Benefits. The most up to date information will be available on the UNO Benefits website located here.
*If you enroll within first 30 days of employment, coverage will be effective the first of the month following your first full calendar month of employment.
Example: Date of Hire = August 20th, Effective Date = October 1st.

Retirement
Louisiana State employees are mandated to pay 8% into a retirement. These employees do not pay social security tax. As an Unclassified Employee you would have an option between two mandatory retirement plans:
Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana is a defined benefit
Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) is a 401 (A) contribution account.

Leave/Holiday
Sick and Vacation leave are accrued for each hour in paid status. The rate at which an employee accrues leave is based upon his/her years of State service. Years of service are calculated as follows:
Years of Service Service Hours Hourly Rate
0-3 years 0 – 8,759 0.0461 per hour
3-5 years 8,760 – 14,599 0.0576 per hour
5-10 years 14,600 – 29,199 0.0692 per hour
10-15 years 29,200 – 43,799 0.0807 per hour
15+ years 43,800+ 0.0923 per hour
Use the following steps to calculate the leave accrued in one pay period:

UNO employees receive 14 paid holidays.
Reduced Tuition
UNO employees and their qualified dependents/spouses are eligible for a reduced rate of tuition of $25 per credit hour plus all fees. For more information on reduced tuition please review the following policy.
Credit Union
UNO employees are eligible for a membership to the UNO Federal Credit Union which is located on campus. Please visit their website for more information.
UNO Gym Membership
Faculty and Staff members receive a reduced rate membership for the UNO Recreation and Fitness Center.
Employee Assistance Program
All UNO employees are eligible to use the Employee Assistance Program. Employees can receive up to 3 face to face counseling sessions at no cost to them. For more information, please click here.
Free Parking
UNO full time faculty and staff receive the benefit of one free parking decal. New employees should go to the UNO Police Department (221 Computer Center) with their vehicle registration, drivers license, and UNO ID card to register for a parking decal.
Public Loan Forgiveness
