Film and Theatre: Film (B.A.)

Film and Theatre: Film (B.A.)

  • The Department of Film and Theatre is proud to be an accredited member of National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).
  • Our goal is to train the complete, independent filmmaker, to give our students the best chance of success in the highly technical and competitive profession of film making.

At the University of New Orleans students have the opportunity to explore the full range of the motion picture arts, from high-tech digital post-production to documentary and dramatic film production. Our goal is to train the complete, independent filmmaker, to give our students the best chance of success in the highly technical and competitive profession of film making.

We offer students the opportunity to be a part of the action. Our Nims Center Studios is a 30,000-square-foot facility often used for professional big-budget films (Runaway Jury, Ray, and Glory Road to name a few). There are opportunities to be a part of these productions while attending UNO.

UNO has one of the most complete and technologically advanced film programs in the country; it's a rare film made in Louisiana that doesn't involve a UNO graduate. Our facilities include:

  • 30-seat computer teaching lab
  • Seven 24-hour edit suites
  • 5.1 Surround sound Nuendo Audio Finish Suite
  • Avid Nitris Finishing Suite
  • Green Screen compositing studio
  • Sound Stage
  • 16mm film camera package
  • SD and HD video camera packages
  • Full lighting gear
  • Tapeless digital audio packages
  • 3-ton grip truck with generator

Alumni have continued on in television and film careers. UNO graduates can be found editing music videos, film, and television; working on major productions in the Hollywood studio system; and working locally on feature films, commercials, and
television programs.
