Geography
(Urban Studies and Planning)

* Geography is an option for study within the Urban Studies and Planning (B.S.) program. Your degree will be in USP.

Geography is more than just knowing where to find something on a map; it is a spatial approach to learning about the world and a discipline so broad that it encompasses and interconnects with nearly all others. When you choose the geography option within the urban studies and planning major, you’ll learn about the wide world of geography and the ground it covers.

In the geography option, you will become an expert with the various tools of a geographer, including cartography, geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing. Our goal is to balance a substantial amount of classroom theory with equal amounts of experience in the field. That’s why you’ll study in three state-of-the-art computer labs and learn to use a variety of field equipment; you could even opt for GIS/remote sensing certification. We also encourage and aid you in applying for internships within the discipline and related industries.

Because a UNO geography degree is so versatile, your options after graduation are numerous. Many of our recent students have entered graduate programs, while others have found positions in industry or governmental agencies such as NASA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
