Our faculty, staff and students strive to improve the world around us and the quality of life for those in our community. Listed below are local organizations UNO COE co-sponsors or supports.

Louisiana Engineering Advancement Program, Inc. (LEAP) >>

Managed and operated by Xavier University and supported by UNO's College of Engineering, this program attracts ethnic minority students from junior/middle school to high school level and assists them to prepare for careers in engineering. Participating schools and students must meet minimum requirements. Students may participate in a video-essay contest, a science fair, the Summer Scholars Program, Engineering Olympics and Career Day. Scholarships are awarded annually to minority students who meet requirements.

Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) >>

The Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) is one of the oldest such fairs in the nation. This annual Fair is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. The Fair is open to any student attending middle or high school in the New Orleans four-parish-area which includes Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, and St. Bernard Parishes.

2012 GNOSEF

AstronautFred Haise addressed hundreds of students who participated in the 2012 GNOSEF, which was held in the UNO Human Performance Center. Prior to his formal address, Haise walked up and down aisles of students who stood beside their science projects waiting for judging to end. Haise casually met with many of the students.
