Children's Center - Petite Privateers

Children coloring with teacherThe Children’s Center is a day care center for children of a parent who is a student, staff or faculty member at the University of New Orleans. The parent must be engaged in campus related activities: attending class, studying, participating in campus-sponsored organizations or working on campus, while child is in attendance at the Center.

Hours

Normally, the hours of operation for the Center are 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Holiday Hours

During the Holidays we will be closed from December 19 through January 02. We will reopen and resume regular business hours on January 3, 2013. Look forward to seeing you in 2013!

Ages Served

The Center serves children from 12 months to five years of age during regular class sessions. Our Summer Enrichment Camp (Petite Privateer Pals) is open to the public for children 4 to 7 years of age who are kindergarten eligible and have not entered the second grade.

Program Goals

  • To meet each child’s physical needs while encouraging individualism, independence and self-care.
  • To provide a nurturing atmosphere in which children have respect for others and for themselves.
  • To provide a calm, warm and loving environment in which the children feel secure while enhancing their individual self-concept.
  • To establish respect for the equipment and materials of the Center.
  • To provide a relaxed atmosphere where independence and choices are encouraged and self-discipline is gained in an environment where the limits and expectations are known.
  • To provide a wide variety of activities within a routine where cooperative play is encouraged. These activities will
    be drawn from the curriculum areas of art, math, science, cooking, music, movement, social studies, practical life skills, dramatic play, language arts and manipulative play.
  • To develop in the child an active curiosity about the world in which he/she lives and enthusiasm for learning which stimulates exploratory behavior and creativity.
  • To provide ample opportunity for the use of large motor skills and coordination through physically active play.
