Learning Outcome: First-year students will exhibit personal growth and development.

Successful students should:

  • develop the problem solving skills needed to overcome transitional challenges experienced at the University of New Orleans.
  • set measurable short and long term goals.
  • Exhibit effective time management skills by balancing academic work with other activities such as social life, work, family and co-curricular activities.

Academic Development

Learning Outcome: First-year students will exhibit academic growth and development.

Successful students should:

  • demonstrate academic engagement through regular attendance and participation in their courses.
  • achieve improved competency in writing, notetaking, active reading, critical thinking and time management skills to be able to master college-level work.
  • implement educational interventions and success plans when challenges arise.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills amongst faculty, staff and peers.

University Resources

Learning Outcome: First-year students will utilize university resources to help them succeed.

Successful students should:

  • utilize two university resources available to assist them in achieving their academic, personal and social goals.
  • be able to identify their academic advisor and student success counselor.
  • demonstrate knowledge of learning opportunities outside of the classroom by participating in one or more co-curricular programs in their first year.
