About the Main Campus


The Lakefront Campus of the University of New Orleans is on the site of a former US Naval Air Station. Barracks, service clubs and other facilities were renovated to hold classes in September of 1957. The inaugural convocation was held in a vacant aircraft hangar.


The Lakefront Campus is located at 2000 Lakeshore Drive. Access to campus can be made at the intersections of Elysian Fields and Leon C. Simon Blvd.

Parking on Campus

Visitors to the Lakefront campus can park in one of two pay lots on the east side of the University Center on Alumni Drive and on the west side of the Earl K. Long Library on Founders Rd. Parking in the pay lots costs $3 a day. In order to park in any of the general access parking lots on UNO's campus, a vehicle must have a current semester parking decal.

Yellow and red lined spaces are designated for Faculty and Staff only. Students with decals may park in white lined spaces. Note: Students may park yellow lined spaces after 5pm, Monday - Friday and all day Sat./Sun. with a current student decal.

Transportation The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority operates public transportation services including buses and streetcars.

Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival - Enjoy a five day celebration of arts and letters dedicated to the playwright who called New Orleans his "spiritual home". Events include panel discussions, theatrical performances, a one-act play competition, lectures, literary walking tours, musical performances, and a book fair.
