Academic Coordinator


School of the Arts


The University of New Orleans School of the Arts is seeking applicants for the unclassified position of Academic Coordinator. As one of three administrative assistants working within the newly formed School of the Arts, the Academic Coordinator will provide support to faculty and students and assist the Director with the day-to-day operations of the school. The Academic Coordinator reports directly to the Director of the School of the Arts. The successful candidate for this position will: • Have strong interpersonal and organizational skills • Have strong written and verbal communication skills • Demonstrate an ability to coordinate with other appropriate campus offices to address the needs of the school • Contribute to the organizational planning process of the newly created school • Demonstrate a willingness to work with faculty and students across all programs within the School of the Arts The School of the Arts includes programs in Arts Administration, Film, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts, with 30 full time faculty, 35 part time faculty, and 700 students. It is housed within the College of Liberal Arts, Education, and Human Development and occupies the Performing Arts Center and the Fine Arts Building and Gallery on the main campus of the University of New Orleans, and the UNO Gallery on St. Claude Avenue.


Academic and Student Support – 90% • Assist the Director with day to day operations of the academic programs of the School • Work with department chairs to develop effective scheduling of classes • Create and maintain room schedule and room use chart • Maintain student records for School of the Arts majors • Maintain student and alumni databases • Serve as Liaison with Office of Alumni Affairs • Coordinate and maintain accurate records of applied lesson assignments each semester • Assist director with gathering and assembling data for accreditation reports • Coordinate faculty and student travel Operations Support – 10% • Oversee non-faculty staff (student workers, graduate assistants, etc.) • Serve as liaison with facilities services • Manage room keys, including student and faculty key requests Additional duties as assigned.


• Bachelor's degree; or in lieu of the degree, 6 years of professional work experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; proficiency with MS Office. Minimum of One (1) year of experience in a higher education environment.


• Master's degree; experience with PeopleSoft; three (3) years of experience in higher education; experience working within higher education arts programs


Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
