To maintain, repair, modify, fabricate by performing highly skilled machining work, and install instrumentation and equipment to support the instructional and research needs of the Mechanical Engineering Department. • Instrumentation and Equipment Support o Assemble, install, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and equipment within the mechanical engineering laboratories, shops, and facilities o Perform all the tasks of a highly skilled machinist while fabricating custom fixtures, parts, or devices as specified in engineering drawings to tolerances of 0.001 inch o Assist in purchasing and installing new equipment and disposal of unused property • Laboratory and Facility Support o Ensure that the mechanical engineering laboratories and facilities are in a safe working order o Conduct preventive maintenance and safety inspections of mechanical engineering laboratories and facilities o Keep inventory of the mechanical engineering department’s machines, tools, and equipment o Order/obtain supplies to maintain a well-stocked inventory of laboratory supplies o Manage and maintain the mechanical engineering machine shops in a safe working order • Faculty and Student Support o Assist mechanical engineering faculty in demonstration, setup, and execution of experiments and equipment o Instruct students in the safe operation of tools and machine shop equipment o Function in a supervisory role in the machining, fabrication, and assembly of student-created components within their capstone and other design projects o Assist mechanical engineering faculty and graduate students with their research efforts o Assist the College of Engineering with related work when needed o Other duties as assigned by department chair


• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology; OR associate's degree in a related field and two years' experience in mechanical maintenance/machining/fabrication, OR at least five years' experience in mechanical maintenance/machining/fabrication; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable skills and knowledge have been achieved. • Ability to lift 50 lbs. • Ability to read mechanical drawings and interpret dimensions and tolerances.


• Familiarity with AutoCAD and SolidWorks; • Experience operating machine tools (e.g. mill, lathe); • Experience in teaching/training
