Library Services Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides circulation, basic reference, and general information services to students, faculty, staff, and other library users through the daily operations of the Library Services Desk and Learning Commons, using the library's integrated online system and other resources. Supervises evening student assistants in the unit. Provides expertise in and support in the Innovation Lab. Assists with other Services Department and Library activities as necessary. This is an evening and weekend position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participates in the daily operation of the Library Services Desk and Learning Commons, which includes providing services directly to the public using an integrated online catalog system, including check-ins, check-outs, promoting good customer relations.
• Assisting users with the Innovation Lab technology
• Schedules 3-D print jobs requested by users
• Supervises evening student assistants.
• Assists patrons in person with basic reference and directional questions.
• Communicates with patrons via email phone, and chat.
• Helps patrons locate items throughout the library; assists with the use of electronic resources, and equipment, including computers, microform readers/printers/scanners, and other audio visual equipment.
• Handles requests and complaints with all constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and non-university borrowers.
• Contributes data in the preparation of annual reports.
• Monitors building activities, resolves problems regarding circulation functions and building activity. Reports maintenance and safety issues appropriately.
• Oversees the opening and closing of the building as scheduled
• Includes evening and weekend hours.
• Serves on Library Committees.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and at least two years of related library public services or relevant work experience. Supervisory experience. Skills and experience with Microsoft Office and other technology applications. Willingness to be flexible and learn new processes and skills in an evolving and dynamic work environment. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English. Physical ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs. Ability to work productively with diverse groups in an urban academic setting. Excellent customer service skills; ability to exercise good judgment in interpreting rules and following library policies; attentive to detail.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Library work experience in an academic setting. Experience using an online library management system. Experience or interest in graphic design. Basic understanding of digital media editing and 3-D printing. Supervisory experience. Interest in Makerspaces.

SALARY: $27,500 plus generous benefits
