POSITION SUMMARY: The Academic Advisor is responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance to prospective and current UNO students by helping them gain insight into college life, academic requirements, assisting with class schedule planning, the registration process, and graduation requirements. The advisor must follow through and track the advancement of students in their academic program, providing academic assistance to all, especially to at-risk students.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Retention, Counseling and Registration duties:
• Manage all functions related to routine admissions, advising, answering inquires, registration, enrollment and monitoring students' progress and graduation audits for majors housed in the College;
• Assist students in developing educational plans that are consistent with their life goals;
• Increase student retention by providing a personal and empathetic relationship helping students connect with UNO;
• Provide accurate information on academic progress and degree requirements to current and prospective majors, including community college students planning to transfer to UNO;
• Assist students with admission, registration and the understanding of University policies, procedures, regulations and programs pertaining to College;
• Advise non-traditional applicants on scholastic amnesty for admission decisions;
• Identify systemic and personal conditions that may impede student academic achievement, develop appropriate interventions and follow up strategies -This is a major aspect of the job due to the complexity of situations that may arise that would result in immediate customer satisfaction and therefore directly impacts the university's retention rate;
• Ascertain and direct students to appropriate student services and campus resources that will enhance their abilities to be academically successful;
• Prepare certification of degree completion ratios for Financial Aid and degree progress certification for the Veterans Administration, student athletes, etc.;
• Serve as liaison between the College programs and the various offices of Enrollment Services and the Privateer Enrollment Center, including, but not limited to First Year Advising, New Student Orientation, Financial Aid, Admissions, to ensure consistent and comprehensive advising and academic progress;
• Represent the College at on and off campus recruiting events and on various committees related to student issues;
• Update advising and promotional material according to approved changes;
• Assist in the design and maintenance of the advising information in College Website and other media;
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in student development, counseling, education or a related field; prior experience working with students in a higher education setting related to advising, student support or student development; excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational ability with attention to detail and accuracy; and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other office technology.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ​At least two years' experience working in an advising capacity in higher education; experience with EAB SSC Campus; working knowledge of computerized registration and degree audit systems; and experience interpreting and administering academic policies.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
