Major Gifts Officer

DEPARTMENT: Advancement

RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as first line strategist, working with the Director of Development, to develop fundraising strategies for two assigned college deans as well as the deans of the Graduate School, and the Earl K. Long Library.

• Develop and implement strategic plan for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding alumni and non-alumni friends
• Develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive fund development program from private sources for support of assigned academic programs and units based on University priorities
• Work closely with deans to review and support actions and tasks related to achieving fundraising goals
• Work closely with the Advancement Services Manager on the identification, research and solicitation of prospects for each college/unit and up to 50 major gift prospects
• Work closely and strategically with the Director of Alumni Affairs to facilitate approaches and engagement of alumni and identification of annual fund raising projects including coordination college based direct mail solicitations, scale funding initiatives and college specific phone room activities
• Assist the Director of Development in guiding the prospect contact activity of the UNO President including working with deans and other University leadership to maximize fundraising results
• Maintain positive working relationships with existing donors and cultivate new donors
• Represent the Development Department as needed at UNO and college based events

• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum of three years of demonstrated success and increased responsibility as a development officer of a higher   education institution or nonprofit organization
• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, both written and oral
• Flexibility and willingness to travel to build donor relationships and University awareness


• Master's degree
• Expertise with presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint) and social media communications
• Proficiency in use of donor relational databases and prospect research tools, e.g. Raiser's Edge LexisNexis, Wealthengine, Ruffalo Noel Levitz
• Experience working with alumni, alumni boards, advisory boards and volunteers
• Understanding of and experience in applying concepts of Planned Giving, Major Gifts, Annual Fund, Scale Funding and Capital Campaigns
• Strong team work and project management experience

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
