Assistant Director For Housekeeping And Grounds

DEPARTMENT: Facility Services

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directs housekeeping and grounds operations, including all activities to maintain sanitation and cleanliness in and around buildings. Walks the campus and performs regular inspections. Disseminates work orders to staff for housekeeping or grounds related work and provide follow up to ensure that customer requests' are completed in a manner intended.

Organizes and manages personnel matters, to include approval of leave requests, overtime, hiring, promoting, initiation of disciplinary actions and requests for terminations for UNO housekeeping and grounds staff and contract cleaning employees.

Selects cleaning methods, materials, and equipment for housekeeping and grounds. Provides or schedules training when necessary. Ensure that tools, radios, and other equipment essential to completing tasks are used safely and in accordance with departmental policy.

Manages the Housekeeping and Grounds Budgets. Controls costs to stay within budget guidelines, prepare capital equipment requests for new and replacement equipment and prepare requests for personnel for service enhancement or add on facilities.

Maintains contact with departments and service center to stay abreast of cleaning/sanitation issues and any special events that will require non-routine cleaning or special preparation within the building or on the grounds.

Develops specifications for outsourced services, functions as contract manager by monitoring performance and taking action to resolve service issues.

Other Duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree. Six years of management of labor experience, of which two years should be management of environmental services for a college or university setting. Experience in supervising a staff of 70+ employees (depending upon budget changes).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of housekeeping scheduling systems, task functions as it relates to floor care and building maintenance. Should be knowledgeable of personnel procedures and LA Civil Service Rules and Regulations. Ability to execute projects and procedures under state procurement laws. Some knowledge of labor contracts.
