POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Student Employment and Verification Coordinator, the Validator conducts a review process in the Student Financial Aid unit to determine the accuracy of various data elements reported by the student/parent on the student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The U.S. Department of Education selects approximately 30% of all aid applicants for verification. The University of New Orleans selects an additional percentage for federal and institutional verification. During the verification process the student and/or parent will be required to submit documentation verifying data reported on the financial aid application. The verification process ensures that eligible students receive all the financial aid in which they are entitled to receive and prevents ineligible students from receiving aid they are not entitled to receive.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Student Employment & Verification Coordinator with the creation, maintenance and processing of files for the validation area. Works to ensure files are processed in a timely manner. Responsible for requesting required documents and completing the data entry of verification items received and the submission of verification information to the federal processor. Reviews EDE Express reports to verify corrections submitted to the processor have been accurately completed.Effectively communicates with supervisor, co-workers and student assistants in the validation area.Possess a cordial and cooperative demeanor to all persons making contact with the validation area.Inform immediate supervisor of any questions/problems relating to the validation area.Develop the required knowledge base to serve as a resource to all students coming to the Student Enrollment Services Center. Actively seek out this knowledge and take advantage of opportunities to grow professionally.Perform other duties as assigned.​

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor's Degree. Must have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Basic accounting and computer skills. Demonstrate attention to detail and have the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Verification experience working with files selected by the Federal Government. Technical experience working with PeopleSoft and EDE Express.

 

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
