IP Network Engineer/Analyst

The University of New Orleans is seeking qualified candidates for the position of IP Network Engineer / Analyst under Enterprise Networks and Telecommunications (ENT), a division of University Computing and Communications (UCC).


Administration and installation of network systems required to build and maintain the campus local area (Ethernet, TCP/IP) and wireless (802.11 based) networks. This position will be directly responsible for the stability and integrity of data, voice, and video services on the campus network.

Network problem resolution for campus network systems, including analysis, troubleshooting and solution implementation. This includes network connectivity, performance, and security issues for wired and wireless networks.

Maintenance of documentation and provide end user training, where required, in support of network support activities.

Assisting Enterprise Networks management with special projects.


A Bachelor's degree with a focus on Information Technology or the Applied Sciences and a minimum of 2 years of experience as an Enterprise Computer Network professional; OR , in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of experience as an Enterprise Computer Network professional.Knowledge of TCP/IP and multilayer switched networks.Experience with the implementation and administration of Enterprise Networks consisting of multilayer Core Backbone Routers interconnecting enterprise Local Area Networks (LANs) and controller-based 802.11N secured Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs, utilizing WPA2 encryption).Experience with Fast & Gigabit Ethernet copper and fiber-optic network cabling infrastructure.Experience with network hardware troubleshooting.Experience with network troubleshooting tools including network protocol analyzers.Experience with the documentation of enterprise network resources, including logical and physical resources.Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Cisco IOS, Windows XP, Windows 7.

Excellent organization, planning, and communication skills.Highly self-motivated and directed.


Experience working in a Higher Education Information Technology / Computing environment.Experience with network authentication, based either on a centralized NAC system (Network Access Control) or by 802.11x port-based control.Experience with Extended LANs between multiple sites using MPLS circuits.Experience with configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of Cisco Core, Distribution, and Access level switches, including units in the C6500, 4900, 3750, 3560, and 2960 families.Experience with network best practices for problem resolution, capacity planning, and security.Experience with implementation and administration of VPN gateway, DHCP, and Network perimeter firewall systems.Operational experience with IPv6.Experience supporting Microsoft Active Directory based domains.
