Academic Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY: The coordinator is responsible for the overall functioning of the college office.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Service to students for retention and program progression. Schedule appointments for academic counselor and direct students to the appropriate advisor.  Responsible for pulling all folders and printing current transcripts and/or credential analysis for the counselor's scheduled appointments or as needed. Greet visitors, answer phones, direct phone calls, check the college voicemail and return calls or distribute messages to the appropriate person.  Call students when needed.  Open office each morning at 8am and lock office each afternoon at 4:30pm. File undergraduate and graduate student folders in the appropriate area, Praxis scores, TEP applications, and all other paperwork for students and create folders as needed. Process appeals, waivers, course substitutions, grade suspensions, change of major, etc. as well as PL requests and Change of Plan forms for students. Inform students of procedures for advising, registration and admission to the Teacher Education Program. Monitor teachlouisiana.net and COEHD website for college inquiries. Print Credential Analysis and transcripts for MAT students from Teacher Certification mailbox. Assist the Assistant Dean and Academic Counselor with "checkouts" for students approaching program completion. Prepare all correspondence for certification students, such as plan changes and PL requests. Type Certification Applications. Assistant the Dean and Assistant Dean in preparation for accreditation reports and site visits and in continuous program documentation. Copy all handouts and forms needed for undergraduate and graduate advising; as well as letters, certification packets for the Department of Education, and other paperwork. Prepare information packets for advising and orientations and keep a supply of printed handouts at the front desk. Sort paperwork such as Praxis scores, applications, etc. and maintain Praxis binders. Work with academic counselor to train and supervise student workers. Serve as back-up timekeeper. Responsible for machines in the copy room (paper and toner). Sort mail delivered to the College office and occasionally deliver information to offices across campus. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of relevant professional work experience, or degree requirement could be substituted with 8 years of relevant professional work experience.  Extensive experience in Microsoft Office programs.  Must be detailed oriented, willing to learn and follow instructions.  Must be able to attend work regularly and on time.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of teacher education programs. Experience with PeopleSoft

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience.
