POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Senior Financial Aid Counselor, the Financial Aid Counselor assist in counseling perspective financial aid applicants and parents concerning financial planning, with emphasis on the application process and available aid programs for qualifying applicants. Advise applicants who are ineligible for need-based assistance on alternative methods of meeting educational expenses, and counsel financial aid applicants and recipients on academic progress requirements as related to aid eligibility.


Counsel prospective and continuing UNO students on financial aid programs; process files by assisting in the administering of all Title IV/Financial Aid Programs.Maintain Compliance with Federal, State, and Institutional regulations.Make general assessments regarding Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and counsel students on their eligibility.Process Professional Judgments for students requesting re-evaluations due to extenuating circumstances.Assist with the Registration Set-up.Assist the Verification Unit to process audited files.Assist the Customer Service Unit (Front Counter/Telephone Bank), assist in serving as a liaison with offices on campus, lending institutions and loan servicers, as well as Federal, State and other agencies as it relates to Student Financial Aid Programs.Conduct Financial Aid Presentations on and off campus.Reconcile Financial Aid programs to prohibit over awards, and to assure proper aid distribution.Respond to incoming telephone calls, fax specific for counseling unit, letters and emails.Actively collect and use data to make decisions and improve both individual and office performance.Develop the required knowledge base to serve as a resource to all students coming to the Student Enrollment Services Center.Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's Degree. Must have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Basic accounting and computer skills. Demonstrate attention to detail and have the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: One year experience in financial aid or related field. Professional experience in higher education financial aid setting.  Technical experience working with PeopleSoft computer software system.


SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
