POSITION SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Academic Advising in the new Privateer Enrollment Center will be charged with maximizing the student-advisor relationship that results in a seamless student experience that promotes academic and professional success. The Coordinator will serve as the senior advising professional as well as supervise four other academic advisors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise academic advisors and ensure that advisors handle student paperwork with the utmost confidentiality. Conduct an annual performance evaluation for each subordinate, setting future goals and strategies. Ensure staff are meeting student needs by keeping them up to date on changes to degree plans, certification requirements, and other advising issues.

Oversee the advisement of new freshmen, new transfer, and first year students regarding degree requirements, university regulations, procedures, and rules. Attend and present at all University New Student Orientations and recruit and advise prospective and first year students.

Prepare reports or provide input regarding university requirements and policies when requested and keep all degree plans, guidelines, and e-mail and formal letters up to date. Maintain academic advisor manual and lists of faculty advisors.

Advise students in developing educational plans that are consistent with their goals and evaluate student progress towards established goals. Monitor student registration activities and recommend solutions or alternatives for students' unmet needs and assess student's academic progress towards degree completion.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required. 3 years of professional experience in counseling and advising. Demonstrated knowledge of theoretical models of college student development, and issues related to first-year students, and students in transition. Excellent computer skills in Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Student Information System (SIS), Degree Auditing, or similar software. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a broad constituency, including administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents. Strong leadership skills and a working knowledge of effective decision-making and conflict resolution techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills enabling successful functioning in a team environment. Ability to coordinate and implement assignments in order to sustain an extensive workload within a fast-paced environment. Ability to demonstrate a personal philosophy of care for others. Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information. Demonstrated ability to multi-task. Excellent attention to details.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counselor Education, Educational Psychology, Career Counseling, Social Work, or related field. Working knowledge of The University of New Orleans processes, programs, and resources.
