Strong Economic Development

According to a recent study by UNO Division of Business and Economic Research, the University of New Orleans has had an immense economic impact on the New Orleans metropolitan area and Louisiana.  Two numbers stand out demonstrate this fact:

$1 billion - The annual economic impact that UNO has on the state.

13,000 - The number of jobs created due to the impact of UNO.

In addition, some other key facts are important to note:

• The UNO Research & Technology Park is home to over 20 companies housing over 1,000 employees
• UNO joins with over 30 companies in the Space & Naval Warfare Systems Command Systems Center with over an $80 million impact since 2008
• 400 engineering and design employees work at the UNO/Northrup Grumman Maritime Technology Center which is a $40 million cooperative
• 100% of the Lester M. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism master's degree graduates are placed in an industry-specific job
• UNO graduates over 2100 students per year, a significant proportion remain in the New Orleans region benefiting the regional economy
• Recent Film, Theatre and Communications Arts graduates have started five new theater companies in the past five years
• The UNO/Nims Center Studios have drawn major film productions to the metro area and housed many major motion pictures such as Ray, The Runaway Jury, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button as well as many others
