Connect with an experienced science student
The Sciences Mentor Collective program is a volunteer mentoring program that helps new freshmen and transfer students in the College of Sciences transition to life as a Privateer. Our goal is to enhance the student experience by linking them one-on-one with peer mentors – experienced science students who are ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges, and recognize opportunities. New students will get guidance on campus, social, and academic life to help them thrive at UNO. At the same time, student mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better professionals and leaders.
Students will be matched with a peer mentor (an experienced science student) based on common interests, background, academics, and/or professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experiences. Mentors and mentees are then matched and are encouraged to communicate at least 2 - 4 times per month. However, you can communicate more or less frequently depending on your individual preferences. Mentors and mentees can communicate via text, phone, email, or a virtual meeting platform. Scroll down to register!
With their mentor, students can discuss common questions to help them make the most of their academic and social experience at UNO.
