About
Chief Executive Officer with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) since July 2012, James William Boyd has enjoyed a varied career as an administrator, performer, and educator. Prior to his engagement with the LPO, Boyd was Director of Artistic Planning and Production with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. During the summers of 2011 and 2012, Boyd worked at the Aspen Music Festival and School in the seasonal position of Manager of Orchestral Operations.
A graduate of the League of American Orchestra’s Management Fellowship Program class of 2010, Boyd spent 13 months working closely with arts leaders during placements at the Aspen Music Festival and School, Pacific Symphony, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. He previously served as CEO of the Salem Chamber Orchestra (OR) from 2006‐2008 and was the founding volunteer General Director of Opera Western Reserve.
Boyd comes to arts administration with a background as a clarinetist. He has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the U.S. and in Italy. Between 2004 and 2006 he was an adjunct faculty member at both Youngstown State University and Westminster College and previously maintained a private clarinet studio. Boyd holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Performance with a Cognate in Arts Administration and Master in Music degree in Music Performance from the University of Cincinnati College‐Conservatory of Music. A native Oregonian, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Oregon School of Music.
Boyd is married to soprano Misook Yun. They have one child, a nine-year old son, William.
