Incoming exchange Students
Thank you for your interest in participating as an international exchange student at the University of New Orleans (UNO). UNO provides students with exceptional academic experience amidst the unique charm and culture of New Orleans.
If you are considering studying abroad at UNO, but are still unsure, feel free to look into the university's Academic Programs, visit the Registrar's Office web site for a ton of helpful information (academic calendar, master course catalog, course bulletin for listings of class offerings per semester), or take a virtual tour of our campus.
If you have already been selected by ISEP or MICEFA, and are ready to apply to UNO as an exchange student, congratulations on being selected to join a unique group of students! You must carefully read the exchange student instructions for applying, as your procedures can be different from other groups of international students. For assistance, please be sure to contact us by sending us an email or calling us at +1 (504) 280-4725.
The Program
UNO's study abroad office manages students coming to UNO via ISEP or MICEFA, as well as students GOING abroad. We work hard to make sure you -- our visiting students -- get good, sound advice when applying, assistance with navigating the application and registration processes, assistance once you are here, and then follow-up once you have returned to your home institution. Incoming exchange students are non-degree-seeking students who enjoy some special treatment and attention by the study abroad office that we hope will leave a lasting impression on you and that you will come back to UNO and New Orleans in the future.
The University
Since its founding, UNO has been committed to diversity and inclusion. In 1958, the University of New Orleans opened its doors as the first fully integrated public university in the South, and has educated students from all 64 Louisiana parishes, all 50 states, and more than 130 countries. UNO prides itself on bringing together a variety of talented and motivated students so that they may learn, interact and pursue their career goals.
Students come to UNO for a number of reasons, but on the top of that list is the high quality education we provide. We are proud to be named one of the nation's best colleges by The Princeton Review, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report and one of the top 1,000 universities in the world by the Center for World University Rankings. We are also classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral University with Higher Research Activity, one of only two in the state of Louisiana. The University's rankings are a testament to the students we attract and the quality of our faculty.
UNO offers a wide range of academic programs in the arts and sciences, business, education, engineering, and interdisciplinary studies. Qualified students may also apply to take classes in our various graduate level programs or other specialized programs of distinction. Exchange students choose from the regular UNO course offerings and take classes alongside their American counterparts as well as international students from around the world. For more information on UNO's academic organization, searching for classes, etc., please visit our Academic Information page.
With a picturesque campus located on the southern shore of Lake Pontchartrain, UNO students enjoy all of the benefits of campus life, plus a 2-minute walking distance from the peaceful lakefront space - great for exercise, study, or just relaxation, as well as a quick drive (or bus ride) downtown to the New Orleans French Quarter for sampling what this famous city has to offer. Orientation
Each semester, new exchange students attend a mandatory orientation that includes essential information about academics, university policies, important resources, wellness, and emergency procedures. Once accepted, you will be sent the information for your orientation, which typically takes place one or two days prior to the start of classes every semester.
Application Information
Please visit our application instructions page. Because our exchange students belong to a special group, there are specific application procedures, so be sure to read them carefully!
