Message from the President
Dear Faculty and Staff,
As a woman and a leader, I very much appreciate the value of “leaning in” to accept—head on—whatever challenge has come my way. But this week I have come to also appreciate the value of “leaning out.” I’ve had the good fortune of being able to spend time with faculty, staff, and students participating in the For Our Future Conference hosted in downtown New Orleans by the University of New Orleans for the University of Louisiana System. Coming together to creatively envision solutions to shared challenges is one of the most valuable aspects of being part of a university system, and I am grateful for the opportunity to “lean out” to learn from colleagues from other campuses.
I would be so thankful if we all could try to take every opportunity to learn lessons from the broader higher education landscape as we plan for the future of the University of New Orleans. Consider “leaning out” by subscribing to daily digests from Inside Higher Ed, the University of Louisiana System, or checking in regularly with the Louisiana Board of Regents. The University of New Orleans also has partnered with the Education Advisory Board, a thought partner based in Washington, DC that focuses on innovative solutions for issues in higher education. As a result of our subscription, anyone with a UNO.edu email address can create an account to sign up for webinars, daily digests, or download research reports on a wide range of important issues. Please lean out at every opportunity to cultivate partnerships and bring ideas back to our university that could enhance our students’ experience and improve our academic and research programs.
With UNO Pride,
Kathy Johnson, Ph.D.
President
The University of New Orleans
P.S. Thank you to our colleagues from the Bollinger School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, The Beach, the Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration, and Jazz Studies for sharing their time and talents with ULS colleagues at the For Our Future conference, as well as University Events and other departments that helped organize the conference. It’s particularly impressive that members of the Pom Team and Bruno managed to be downtown before 7 a.m. on a Monday morning to infuse the conference with Privateer spirit!
