Message from the President
Dear Campus Community,
I want to take a moment to address the news about the Louisiana Board of Regents’ recommendation that the University of New Orleans transition from the University of Louisiana System to the LSU System. While this proposal now moves to the Legislature for consideration, I want to reassure you that our primary focus remains on you—our students, faculty and staff.
UNO has faced financial challenges, and we have been working diligently to stabilize our operations, strengthen enrollment and ensure the long-term success of our university. This recommendation does not change our day-to-day work or our commitment to providing a high-quality education and research environment.
I know you may have questions about what this means for UNO’s future. At this stage, there are still many details to be determined. What I can promise you is transparency: We will keep you informed at every step of this process, and we will advocate for what is best for our university community.
I encourage you to share your thoughts, ask questions and stay engaged. There will be opportunities in the coming weeks to discuss this recommendation and what it could mean for UNO. In the meantime, please continue your outstanding work as students, educators and researchers. Our university has a proud history and—together—we will shape its future.
Thank you for your dedication to UNO.
With UNO Pride,
Kathy Johnson, Ph.D.
President
The University of New Orleans
