Mission Statement
Dr. Michael Mizell-Nelson, the namesake of UNO’s Digital History Lab (DHL), was a pioneer in the fields of digital and public history, part of the widely-heralded “new media revolution” reshaping academia since the dawn of the millennium. Through the DHL, the History Department seeks to foster new approaches to research, teaching, and communication with the wider publics.
In concrete terms, the DHL seeks to promote academic digital history projects -- ranging from familiar approaches like constructing websites, databases, and online exhibitions, to creating Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-based maps and 360-degree videos -- to enhance the scholarly practice of faculty and students alike. In addition, the DHL seeks to familiarize history students with a host of practical, transferable skills that will benefit them in their careers and lives in the rapidly-changing working world.
