Careers in Computer Science
Industrial Opportunities
We maintain strong ties with local and regional companies, who recruit directly from our currently enrolled and graduated student body. Our industry partners are committed to mentoring and interacting directly with students and sharing professional knowledge and experience so that they acquire a strong familiarity with commonly used tools and frameworks.
Research Opportunities
We prepare students for graduate programs and offer a diverse pool of well-funded research opportunities and scholarship programs. All of our faculty are engaged in active research in their chosen fields and offer many funded research opportunities to our graduate students to participate in innovative technological projects. Active research also ensures that course material is current and relevant which is crucial for a field that rapidly evolves.
Mission Statement
We at the Department of Computer Science strive to offer a competitive curriculum. We are committed to training well-versed, competent computer scientists and software engineers prepared for employment at national, regional, and local levels in technology and information firms. Our program adheres to the standards set forth by ABET who is responsible for all nationally accredited computer science programs. The department's goal is to supply the greater New Orleans area with qualified software engineers, computer security experts, bioinformaticians, and game developers. To achieve this we provide a complete and thorough foundation in the fields of computer sciences along with practical applications of those concepts with an emphasis on design patterns and algorithm design, principles in software engineering, an understanding of computer architecture, and a proficiency in high-level programming languages.
