Great City, Great University
The founding of the University of New Orleans in 1958 marked the beginning of public higher education in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Under the leadership of Chancellor Homer L. Hitt, the University of New Orleans committed to the ideals of academic excellence and accessibility to all.
Since the first graduating class in 1962, the University of New Orleans has conferred more than 70,000 degrees and remains committed to its mission to provide students, faculty, staff, and friends a welcoming place to learn and engage with the community.
"To be a UNO professor encompasses two sets of ideas. First, it means I get to interact with students ... every time I walk into a classroom, they teach me something! Second, I have the ability to focus on learning new things to bring into my lectures through my research ... Engaging in the research alerts me to new trends in business and enhances my teaching skills."
Dinah Payne,
Professor of Management
