Protocol for Medical Emergencies
In the event of a medical emergency on campus, contact Campus Police at 504-280-6666.
Remember:
- Stay calm
- Give specific location and phone number
- State nature of emergency
- Move victim only if there is a potential danger
Ochsner Health Center - UNO staff do not respond to medical emergencies on campus. In cases of emergency, contact UNO Police at 504-280-6666. Health Center staff provide medical and nursing services to UNO faculty, staff and students only.

Medical Excuse Protocol
The responsibility of Ochsner Health Center - UNO is to treat ill or injured students and to provide education regarding health-related issues. Class attendance is an administrative matter between faculty and students. Ochsner Health Center – UNO does not provide medical excuse notes justifying class absences. Students who request supporting documentation from Ochsner Health Center – UNO can refer to their after visit summary for documentation of their visit. If you believe they should stay home due to their illness (contagious, fatigue, etc.), injury, or other reason, please note that in your Discharge Instructions. Students are strongly encouraged, when scheduling for non-emergency appointments to do so during a time that does not conflict with their class schedule.

ADD/ADHD Medication Protocol
- A patient must have in writing, an evaluation from a clinical psychologist or physician with a diagnosis of ADD, ADHD, Depression or Bipolar Disorder. The patient must have appropriate documentation of the office visits that include the name of the most current medication, dosage and directions clearly written.
- The patient must make a scheduled appointment with a Physician (MD Only) to obtain a refill of these prescriptions.
- At the discretion of the Physician, refill medication requests will only be considered for ADD, ADHD, Depression or Bipolar Disorder, with the supporting documentation listed above.
- We will not treat diagnose or refill medications for insomnia, psychosis, anxiety, or opioid/alcohol dependence.
