Faculty Senate
The Faculty Senate of the University of New Orleans, formerly the University Senate, became the representative body of the faculty in December 2011. The Faculty Senate promotes the participation of the faculty in university governance and has authority in matters affecting more than a single college, school, or a division that involves educational policy. The Faculty Senate assists the university administration in matters of faculty responsibility, such as academic standards and curriculum, student affairs, and administrative policy. The Faculty Senate also advises the administration focusing on the University’s goals, priorities, and financial needs.
The Faculty Senate serves as the forum for meetings between University administration and faculty regarding relevant issues for debate and discussion, recommends faculty to serve on university-wide committees, establishes University and Senate Standing Committees, and is responsible for membership of Faculty Senate Standing Committees. Faculty is elected to the Faculty Senate according to the Faculty Senate By-laws. Membership also includes the President of the Student Government, the President of the Alumni Association, and the President of the UNO Staff Council.
