UNO Day at the State Capitol
Dozens of University of New Orleans faculty, staff, students, administrators and alumni gathered at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge on Thursday for UNO Day at the legislature. The annual event aims to educate state lawmakers about the importance of UNO to the New Orleans region, the state of Louisiana and the nation, as well as to inform them about the outstanding educational, research and community outreach programs that the University offers.
State Rep. Jared Brossett introduced a resolution on the floor of the House of Representatives that commended the University as the "Heartbeat of the Crescent City" and officially declared May 30, 2013 to be UNO Day at the Capitol. Rep. Brossett also publicly recognized a contingent of officials that included UNO President Peter J. Fos; Brett Kemker, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management; Rachel Kincaid, vice president for external affairs; and Sandra K. Woodley, president of the University of Louisiana System.
UNO faculty, staff and students set up displays in the Rotunda of the Capitol that were available for lawmakers and other visitors to view. The exhibits showcased various program offerings and research projects that highlighted UNO's unique status as the only public, urban research institution in Louisiana.
