UNO Alumnus Is Named Among Alumni of the Year by LSU Health Sciences Center Medical School
Fred Rodriguez, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UNO 1972 and is president-elect of our UNO Alumni Association is one of three of LSU Health Sciences Center's 2013 Alumni of the Year. Rodriguez is a New Orleans pathologist.
A University of New Orleans alumnus is one of three medical doctors named 2013 Medical Alumni of the Year by LSU Health Sciences Center. He is president-elect of the UNO alumni association.
Fred Rodriguez, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UNO in 1972, will be recognized along with Drs. Mario Calonje and Lester Wayne Johnson as LSUHSC alumni of the year during the LSUHSC Medical Alumni Annual Scientific Session on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside Hotel.
Rodriguez, who will succeed current president Norma Jane Sabiston with a passing of the gavel this fall, was named president-elect of the University of New Orleans International Alumni Association President-Elect in October. He now serves on the alumni association's board of directors.
The New Orleans pathologist has been a member of the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Medicine faculty since 1977 and currently serves as the Emma Moss Professor of Pathology at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans.
Rodriguez is a former national director of pathology and laboratory medicine for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and past president of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Dr. Rodriguez is also the President-Elect of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science.
A regular fixture at UNO events, Rodriguez played a key role in the Investiture of UNO President Peter J. Fos, helped lead a boiling team at Crawfish Mambo and appeared on the party platform at fall and spring commencement.
