UNO's 'Heartbeat of the Crescent City' Commercial to Air on Southland Football Encore
The "Heartbeat of the Crescent City" campaign launched earlier this year by the University of New Orleans will now be featured during the Southland Conference's Football Encore series, which airs on Cox Sports Television (CST).
The 30-second UNO "Heartbeat" commercial will run twice during contests aired as part of the series, beginning tonight at 7 p.m. with this week's replay of Southeastern Louisiana-Lamar from the 2012 football season.
According to Chris Mycoskie, Southland Conference Assistant Commissioner for Television and Electronic Media, the spot airs this week during the third commercial break, which will fall early in the first quarter, in addition to the ninth commercial break at the start of halftime.
These appearances of UNO commercials are the first to air during a Southland telecast.
The 30-second spot was initially designed to attract new students and increase Privateer pride. The television commercials released by the University in January were part of a much larger campaign which included advertisements on billboards, movie theater clips in the greater New Orleans metropolitan area, cable channels, online, at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and in various print publications.
"We wanted to position ourselves in the minds of high school students and their parents that we are a viable alternative to other universities in the city," said Kevin McLin, UNO Vice President of the Office of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations in January. "There are so many things that UNO does well and no one really knows about them. When you think of the New Orleans Saints, New Orleans jazz, New Orleans history, New Orleans cuisine, New Orleans entrepreneurship and New Orleans industry, you should also think of the University of New Orleans."
The Southland Conference Encore started its eight-week run of on July 2 with a rebroadcast of the game between Southland football co-champions Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas. The slate of games continues through August 20.
The UNO commercial will be seen throughout the Cox Sports Television viewing area.
The New Orleans-based Cox Sports Television launched on Oct. 28, 2002 in front of 450,000 Louisiana viewers. CST has grown more than 400 percent to 2 million in the nearly 11 years since launch, making it one of the fastest growing regional sports networks in the south.
The 24-hour regional sports network is currently carried in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri and Virginia. CST is owned and operated by Cox Communications Louisiana, LLC. Initially targeted to be a Louisiana sports network, CST has secured collegiate, professional and high school events that have expanded the networks reach throughout the south.
