The University of New Orleans’ theatre program is the 2019 “best value for the money” in Louisiana, according to the annual nationwide ranking of American colleges and universities by College Factual. UNO’s theatre program is not only top in the state but also ranks No. 15 in the nation out of 308 programs.
“The theatre program at the University of New Orleans offers students opportunities to gain the knowledge, skills and experience that prepare them for entry into the professional world, confirmed by its vast alumni base of artists and educators working throughout the New Orleans area and nationally,” said Charles Taylor, director of the School of the Arts. “Our high quality education in theatre studies is due to a creative and highly qualified faculty who provide our students with high-level performance and production experiences.”
College Factual’s “Best Theatre Schools for the Money” ranking takes into account the average yearly cost of the institution, the average time students take to graduate and the quality of the academic program. This means institutions that rank highly offer excellent value for the money for theatre graduates. College Factual highlights superior outcomes for graduates of UNO’s theatre program, citing PayScale survey data that show average early-career earnings of $33,366 and average mid-career earnings of $53,169 for UNO theatre graduates.
Theatre is one of five arts disciplines—along with arts administration, film, music and visual arts—within the University of New Orleans School of the Arts, which shares resources and training across disciplines and addresses 21st century career challenges.
