The University of New Orleans' Musical Excursions Series will host the Musaica Chamber Ensemble via a livestreamed event from UNO’s Performance Art Center on Feb. 2.
The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. and will be streamed online from the UNO School of the Arts Facebook page.
Musaica is a non-profit chamber music ensemble founded in the fall of 2006 by eight devoted professional musicians from the Louisiana Philharmonic.
The livestream event is a continuation of the ensemble’s 15th season, "Reconnecting," a nod toward the COVID-19 pandemic that has required many people to quarantine.
The ensemble’s theme for the event is "Bridges Between Countries," a program that includes the world premiere of Dave Anderson's Nonet for strings, winds, and harp, along with works by composers from other countries who inspired him, including Dmitri Shostakovich's Viola Sonata, Paul Hindemith's Seventh String Quartet, and Alberto Ginastera's Impresiones de la Puna for flute and string quartet.
The concert is supported by a generous grant from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.
The performance will be free to the public via online streaming. There is a recommended donation of $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Contributions can be made online by visiting the Musaica donations page.
