Four University of New Orleans engineering students have been selected to receive a scholarship sponsored by the American Bureau of Shipping. The Houston-headquartered maritime classification society donates $10,000 annually for student scholarships.
The spring 2021 recipients will each receive $2,500. They are:
Abigail J. Blink, a junior from West Chester, Ohio. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. Blink works as a student manager for the UNO Men's Basketball team. After graduation, she intends to work for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
Gerard Gerarve III, a sophomore from Mandeville, Louisiana. He is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and was a representative for the STEM Living and Learning Community at UNO in 2019. Gerarve wants to pursue a career in the design of cruise ships.
Mara E. Kramer, a senior from Melbourne, Florida. Kramer works as a tutor for the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering program at UNO. She is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and is the president of Tau Beta Pi's Louisiana Epsilon Chapter. After graduation, Kramer intends to continue her studies in graduate school at UNO.
Nhan T. Tran, a senior from Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. He is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and Tau Beta Pi. After graduation, Tran plans to work in the maritime industry.
