University of New Orleans doctoral student Maxwell Harsha has been awarded an Oil Spill Recovery Institute (OSRI) Graduate Research Fellowship. Harsha, who is studying environmental analytical chemistry, will conduct research in Alaska.
The research fellowship provides a $30,000 stipend per year for three years. Harsha will work with collaborators Patrick Tomco, a chemistry professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and toxicologist Sarah Allan at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The research will focus on toxicity of water-soluble hydrocarbon oxidation products in early-life-stage Pacific herring.
