The University of New Orleans has selected Justin McKenzie as its new vice president for information technology and chief information officer. The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System approved his appointment today. McKenzie, who brings nearly 30 years of IT experience to the role, was most recently the chief information officer at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
"Justin McKenzie is a skilled leader who is well-versed in a number of critical areas including IT support services, telecommunications, research computing, academic computing, information systems and cybersecurity,” said UNO President Kathy Johnson. “We are excited for him to help bring the University into a new information technology era.”
McKenzie will provide leadership and strategic vision for the use of integrated information technologies across the university enterprise, including academic affairs, research, finance and administration, and institutional research. He will lead the Office of Information Technology.
For the past six years, McKenzie has been the chief information officer at Lincoln University where he developed and implemented a campus information technology master plan. He completed a campus-wide technology assessment, which led to an aggressive pursuit of stabilization and upgrades of the university’s IT infrastructure. Prior to that, he held similar leadership roles at Alabama A&M University, Winston-Salem State University, Florida Institute of Technology and the University of Southern Mississippi.
McKenzie is affiliated with a number of regional and national professional organizations, and he’s won numerous awards, including the Ed Scoop Higher Education IT Executive of the Year award in 2023.
McKenzie holds a master’s degree in engineering technology from the University of Southern Mississippi, an MBA from William Carey University and a bachelor’s degree in information systems from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He will begin his new role at UNO on October 1.
