Veteran college sports administrator Vince Granito has been named interim director of athletics at the University of New Orleans. He will fill the void left by Tim Duncan, who has accepted the position of senior deputy athletics director at his alma mater, the University of Memphis.
“Vince is well respected in the athletic department and within our community of supporters and alumni,” said UNO President Kathy Johnson. “He’s a dedicated and experienced leader, and a great choice to serve as interim athletic director during this important time for Privateer athletics.”
Granito joined the University of New Orleans in 2017 as associate athletic director for internal operations. He served as UNO’s interim director of athletics during 2018-19, prior to Duncan’s arrival, and he most recently was senior director of tickets sales and service, where he led efforts to increase ticket sales and attendance at home games.
Granito previously served for 30 years in the Tulane athletic department, the last 19 as an associate athletic director, overseeing external affairs, internal affairs, facilities and event management. Later this month, he will receive the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame's Billy Slatten Award, presented to an individual who has given extraordinary service, commitment and support to Tulane University and its student-athletes.
In prior stops, Granito worked at the University of Houston and the U.S. Naval Academy. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Youngstown State and earned his master’s in sports administration at St. Thomas University.
Granito will begin his new role on Sept. 16.
