Dr. Samuel Lyndon Gladden joined UNO as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education and Human Development and Professor of English in July 2022. Dean Gladden’s tenure at UNO follows a history of service in faculty and administrative positions at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (2012-2022), the University of Northern Iowa (2000-2012), and Virginia State University (1998-2000). Over the course of his career, he has created cultures of collaboration; has established assessment and data-driven decision-making as cornerstones of institutional commitments; and has facilitated successful change management at the department, college, and campus levels. Dean Gladden is committed to developing internal and external collaborations, fostering a culture of transparency, and improving communication among all stakeholders. Dean Gladden has presented research and published widely on a number of key figures in British literature and culture including Percy and Mary Shelley, Wilkie Collins, Oscar Wilde, Noël Coward, and, most recently, David Bowie. He is a lifetime member of the Oxford Round Table, and his thought-piece on the pandemic and the etiquette of masking was featured on the nationally syndicated radio program The Academic Minute. Dean Gladden holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas and master’s and doctoral degrees in English from Texas A&M University.
